Is Tongyeong DPIRANG the same as Dongpirang?

DPIRANG is a ticketed nighttime media-art attraction in Nammangsan Park. Dongpirang is a separate hillside mural village overlooking the central harbor. You can combine them in a day, but they have different entrances and experiences. Save DPIRANG’s exact address, 29 Nammanggongwon-gil, when planning the evening transfer.

The attraction’s story imagines murals from Dongpirang and Seopirang coming to life on the mountain after dark. Light, projected imagery and sound accompany a walking route through the park. We recommend it for travelers who enjoy an outdoor evening activity and can comfortably manage the terrain, rather than expecting a seated theater performance.

Keep the daytime sightseeing modest if the night visit is your priority. A climb through Dongpirang, a mountain outing and a late walk can become a tiring combination. Our Tongyeong city guide covers the wider harbor and cable-car choices; this article concentrates on the decisions that make DPIRANG itself workable.

What are the current opening hours and last-entry times?

The current Korean operator guide lists three seasonal schedules, with admission stopping one hour before the attraction closes. In October through February, arrive for entry between 18:30 and 21:00; operation ends at 22:00. Do not use the old midnight closing time still shown on some English travel pages.

  • March–April and September: open 19:30–22:30; last admission 21:30.

  • May–August: open 20:00–23:00; last admission 22:00.

  • October–February: open 18:30–22:00; last admission 21:00.

These times were checked on 21 October 2026 against the operator’s Korean guide. Its January 2026 reopening notice also confirms the revised seasonal closing times. The operator says ambient light, local circumstances and weather can alter operations, so check the current notice again before setting out, especially for a one-night visit.

Treat the cutoff as a limit, not your target arrival

Aim earlier than last admission so that finding the ticket booth, walking up from your drop-off and any queue do not decide the evening for you. The route itself takes time, and a late entry is an awkward choice if you need frequent rests. Opening time is often the simpler planning anchor for a family.

Wednesday is the regular closure day, and the current Korean guide also lists January 1. It notes that a closure can move after a public-holiday period. Check the specific holiday announcement rather than projecting an ordinary weekly schedule onto Seollal, Chuseok or a long weekend. Old Monday-closure descriptions should not determine your booking.

How much are tickets, and should you buy ahead?

Standard admission is KRW 15,000 for adults aged 19 and over, KRW 12,000 for teenagers aged 13–18, and KRW 10,000 for children aged 6–12. Children under 6 are listed for free entry. These are the operator’s published age bands; bring suitable age evidence when requesting a child or free ticket.

Two adults and one child aged 6–12 therefore pay KRW 40,000 at the standard rates. That example covers admission only, with transport and optional purchases separate. The interactive light ball is an additional product, so do not assume it comes with every admission ticket or that each visitor must purchase one.

The current Korean guide says tickets can be bought online in advance but an experience time cannot be reserved. The ticket page also describes first-come, first-served on-site sales at the Lost & Found ticket booth. A prepaid ticket should therefore not be treated as a guaranteed timed entry or a promise of no queue.

Read the exact purchase conditions

Start with the official ticket and visitor-information pages in Sources & verification below. If an online seller offers a ticket or bundle, confirm the named attraction, validity dates, redemption method and cancellation conditions before payment. We have not verified a dedicated Klook or Trip.com admission product for this guide; an attraction-information page is not proof of a ticket offer.

The operator lists a 50% discount for holders of a same-day Tongyeong Cable Car or Adventure Tower ticket, with evidence and purchase-channel conditions. Discounts cannot be stacked, and the page warns that online purchases cannot receive additional other-facility discounts. Ask the booth which rate applies before paying; a bundle is useful only when you want both activities and can use them.

Can children, strollers and wheelchair users manage the route?

Age eligibility and physical suitability are separate questions. The operator describes approximately 1.3 km of paved and unpaved mountain paths with uphill and downhill sections. It does not recommend the route for people who have difficulty moving. For a stroller, wheelchair or limited walking stamina, ask about your specific route before buying admission.

The final Forest Exit section is unpaved; the operator directs visitors who find it difficult to use a paved bypass. This is useful access information, but it does not establish a fully step-free circuit. The guidance does not provide a complete stair count, gradients or wheelchair specifications. Confirm the approach from your parking or drop-off point as well as the paid route.

Explain the equipment you use and whether you can manage any steps or steep slopes. Ask staff where the bypass begins, how to return if the route becomes too difficult, and whether your chosen arrival point avoids an unsuitable stair shortcut. Do not rely on the shortest walking line on a map as an accessibility assessment.

With young children, plan around their normal energy and bedtime. The operator estimates 50–80 minutes for the viewing route, and suggests about two hours including transport. Leave room for slower walking instead of promising that every family will finish in the same time. A daytime rest can be more useful than adding another attraction.

What should you bring, and what happens in rain?

Wear shoes suitable for walking on slopes and bring a layer appropriate to the evening forecast. The operator advises against high heels and slippers. This is an outdoor route, so a ticket does not provide an indoor weather alternative. Check operation again before taking transport uphill when rain, snow or strong weather is expected.

DPIRANG can open in rain or snow, but bad weather may lead to early closure. The operator recommends a raincoat in wet conditions and states that refunds are not available after entry. Read your seller’s cancellation terms separately and ask what applies if operation is canceled before you enter; do not assume every booking channel handles this identically.

Bring water and eat before the visit: the operator prohibits food and alcohol in the viewing area, with water allowed. Toilets are listed in the Civic Cultural Center basement and the Light Orchestra section. Ask staff for the current toilet locations and use one before setting off, especially when visiting with children.

The program uses strobe effects. If flashing light is a concern, discuss the relevant sections with staff before entering; the operator advises affected visitors to inform staff and bypass those sections. This detail matters when deciding whether the experience suits your party, rather than discovering it halfway through the walk.

How do you get there and return without a car?

Plan two journeys: getting to DPIRANG and getting back to your accommodation or onward departure. Tongyeong’s intercity bus terminal is a separate destination from the harbor and park. Use the current local route search for your arrival time, then save a taxi fallback if the evening bus connection is inconvenient.

The operator directs public-transport visitors to the Nammangsan Park Entrance stop and lists services from Tongyeong Intercity Bus Terminal. We recommend checking the live service and walking approach instead of assuming a listed route still runs after your visit. A bus that brings you to the attraction does not establish a usable return departure.

For a taxi, save DPIRANG’s name and full street address and ask about the suitable drop-off or pickup point. Confirm the return location while you still have time to ask staff; a map pin within the park may not be a place a vehicle can stop. Keep your hotel address available offline and your phone charged.

Our Korea taxi guide explains the practical booking and payment choices. If leaving Tongyeong that night, use the intercity bus guide to check the exact terminal and ticket. Work backward from boarding, including the walk out, local transfer and luggage collection. Drop the night visit if the connection leaves no realistic margin.

Should you stay overnight near Gangguan?

An overnight stay is the easier choice when DPIRANG is a main reason for visiting Tongyeong. It removes the need to rush a night walk for an intercity departure, although you still need a route back to the hotel. For a short visit centered on dinner and the harbor, compare addresses around the central waterfront.

Gangguan’s central waterfront provides context for choosing an overnight base. This is the harbor, not a hotel or the paid DPIRANG route.[4]

Hansan Hotel at 247 Tongyeonghaean-ro is one property to compare in that central area. Use the exact address when checking the listing: it is different from Hansan Marina Hotel & Resort. Treat it as an accommodation option, not an official DPIRANG partner or a guarantee of door-to-door walking convenience.

Check the room type, guest count, cancellation deadline and last check-in before reserving. We recommend checking in and leaving luggage before dinner. If you intend to arrive at the hotel after the attraction, obtain the property’s confirmation that you can enter at that time; a paid room does not by itself confirm late access.

For a car-based trip, a more distant property may suit other plans, but compare the actual night drive and parking arrangements. DPIRANG’s official guide lists Nammangsan Sculpture Park and the DPIRANG 1, 2 and 3 public parking lots. It does not promise an available space or establish that every approach is suitable for your mobility needs.

What is a realistic afternoon-to-night plan?

Keep one main daytime outing, dinner and DPIRANG as the evening anchor. If you arrive late, remove the daytime sightseeing first rather than squeezing dinner and entry against the cutoff. If the attraction is closed or the weather is unsuitable, use the overnight stay for a relaxed meal and move the night walk to another eligible date if your trip allows.

  • Afternoon: arrive, leave luggage and choose a short Gangguan outing or a manageable visit to Dongpirang.

  • Before dinner: check today’s operating notice and decide whether the weather and your energy still support the walk.

  • Dinner: eat before entering, then allow time to reach the correct ticket booth and use the toilet.

  • Evening: visit within the seasonal entry window, allowing the operator’s 50–80-minute viewing estimate plus your own extra time.

  • Afterward: take the return route you planned, with no additional hill or distant attraction required.

In summer the attraction opens at 20:00, so the night may finish later than a young child’s usual routine. In winter, the 18:30 opening offers an earlier start, but the entry cutoff is also earlier. Choose the season’s actual timetable rather than copying someone else’s itinerary from a different month.

What should you know once inside?

Entry covers one viewing; re-entry and repeat viewing are not allowed. Keep the ticket available until staff have completed the admission check, since the operator says lost tickets cannot be reissued. Settle food, restroom and meeting arrangements before starting so that leaving temporarily does not interrupt the visit.

Photography is allowed without flash, while commercial filming, photography and streaming have restrictions. Keep the path clear when stopping for a picture and follow staff directions. The DPIRANG photographs in this guide show the setting in May 2022, before the 2026 equipment renewal; individual projections and displays may differ on your visit.

The final check is practical: everyone can manage the route, your chosen day is operating, you understand the ticket and you know how to get back. When those pieces fit, the evening has room for enjoying the artwork without turning the last part of your Tongyeong day into a race.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I visit Dongpirang instead and see the same light show?

No. Dongpirang is a mural village; DPIRANG is the separate paid nighttime media-art route in Nammangsan Park. Save the correct name and the address, 29 Nammanggongwon-gil, before traveling.

Does buying a ticket online reserve an entry time?

The current Korean operator guide says online advance purchase is possible but experience-time reservations are not. Check the selected seller’s validity and redemption conditions, and allow for an admission queue.

Is DPIRANG automatically closed whenever it rains?

No. The operator says it can open in rain or snow, with possible early closure in bad weather. Check the live notice, consider the walking conditions, and read refund terms before entering.

Is the entire attraction accessible with a stroller or wheelchair?

A fully step-free circuit is not established by the published guidance. The route includes slopes and paved and unpaved paths, with a paved bypass for the final Forest Exit. Ask the operator about your equipment, the approach and the return route before purchasing.
