The regular ticket includes island admission and the round-trip ferry; eligible discount categories differ.

Simplest fixed option
Direct round-trip shuttle

The official partner shuttle serves Hongdae, Myeongdong and Dongdaemun, but island admission is separate.

The island visit is simple once you reach the wharf; the real planning decision is how to cross Seoul, reserve the right train and protect the return. This guide compares the independent rail route, direct shuttle and guided tour using current operator information.

Nami Island from Seoul is easiest by reserved ITX train to Gapyeong, then a taxi or local bus to the wharf and a five-minute ferry.

Is Nami Island from Seoul worth a full day?

Yes, for travelers who want an uncomplicated outdoor break rather than a landmark-heavy sightseeing day. Nami Island has long tree lanes, river edges, gardens, exhibitions, children's spaces and small transport activities within a compact, mostly walkable setting. The value comes from having time to walk, stop for lunch and adjust with the weather—not from racing through every named attraction.

The island visit begins with open lawns and wooded space; allow time to walk rather than treating it as a ferry photo stop.[2]

The geography is slightly confusing. Nami Island's official address is in Chuncheon, Gangwon State, while the usual railway arrival, ticket office and ferry departure are in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province. For navigation, search for Gapyeong Station first and Nami Island Ticket Office or Gapyeong Wharf second. Searching only for the island can produce a destination across the river before you have chosen how to cross it.

Allow most of a day from central Seoul. The fast rail leg is only part of the journey; hotel-to-station travel, a transfer at Gapyeong, ticketing, ferry queues and the return all need margin. Three to five useful hours on the island is a better target than a rushed ninety-minute circuit. Compare the trip with closer or more structured options in our Seoul day-trip guide before committing one of a short visit's full days.

What is the best way to do Nami Island from Seoul?

ITX-Cheongchun: best balance for most independent visitors

Take the ITX-Cheongchun from Yongsan or Cheongnyangni to Gapyeong. Nami Island's official access page gives an approximate journey of 60 minutes from Yongsan and 42 minutes from Cheongnyangni. ITX is a reserved train, not an ordinary tap-in subway ride, so buy the correct train and seat for both directions. Choose Yongsan when it is simpler from western or central Seoul; choose Cheongnyangni when it avoids crossing the city before you begin.

This route wins when you want an early start, a long island visit or freedom to choose lunch and the return. Its weak point is the final 1.5 km to the wharf, but that is a small problem if planned. A taxi is usually the cleanest option for two or more people or anyone protecting a train connection. Local bus 10-4 is valid, but the official Gyeonggi listing shows wide possible intervals, so never assume a bus will meet a particular ITX arrival.

Gyeongchun Line subway: best when cost matters more than time

The all-stop Gyeongchun Line connects Sangbong and Gapyeong in about 50 minutes according to the island's current directions, though reaching Sangbong and waiting for the onward train add to the real trip. This is ordinary metropolitan rail rather than ITX, so it can suit a flexible traveler already based in northeastern Seoul. Check the exact route in a Korean navigation app and confirm whether your suggested journey requires a transfer.

Do not compare only the displayed vehicle time. A guest in Hongdae or Myeongdong may save money on the all-stop train but lose the difference in an extra cross-city transfer. The practical winner is the route that minimizes door-to-door uncertainty from your hotel. Our Korea transport-card guide explains what a stored-value card covers and why it does not replace an ITX reservation.

Direct shuttle: best when you want one fixed round trip

Nami Island's official 2026 notice lists a daily partner shuttle leaving Hongik University Station at 09:00, Namsan Yejang near Myeongdong at 09:40 and Dongdaemun History & Culture Park at 09:50, arriving at the island area at 11:30. The return leaves Nami Island at 16:30. It is sold as a round trip, not one-way transport, and island admission is not included.

The shuttle solves ticket and transfer decisions but gives you a fixed window. It is sensible for a traveler uncomfortable with regional rail or staying close to a pickup. It is less attractive if you want the quiet first ferry, a late autumn evening, or more than roughly five hours around the wharf and island. Recheck the operator notice and meeting-point description before travel; station exits and curbside pickup areas are not interchangeable.

Guided tour: best only when the extra stops add value

A guided Nami Island tour from Seoul usually earns its price by linking places that would otherwise require regional buses, taxis or timed reservations. That can work for a first-time visitor who wants Nami plus one garden or rail-bike activity. It can also produce a fragmented day when the listing stacks three or four distant stops and protects only a short island window.

Compare the operator, actual pickup, time on Nami, admissions, meal arrangement, language, minimum group policy and cancellation terms. When comparing tour listings, ignore the longest attraction list and choose the itinerary whose pace you would still enjoy in heat, rain or autumn traffic. If Nami itself is the priority, ITX or the direct shuttle usually provides a clearer day.

How do you take the ITX and ferry step by step?

1. Reserve a realistic outbound and return

Search the official KORAIL channel for Yongsan or Cheongnyangni to Gapyeong on your exact date. Buy a return that leaves enough time to exit the island, wait for a ferry, cover the 1.5 km back to the station and find the platform. The final possible train is a poor planning target. A slightly earlier protected return with a later backup is more resilient than one seat that depends on every connection running perfectly.

Reach the Seoul station with margin. Yongsan and Cheongnyangni serve several rail systems, and an ITX platform is not necessarily beside the subway exit you used. Save the reservation offline, match the train number and car, and do not board an all-stop Gyeongchun service because the destination name also includes Gapyeong. Travelers still arranging their Seoul base can use our where-to-stay guide to compare station access by neighborhood.

2. Move from Gapyeong Station to the correct wharf

At Gapyeong Station, the Nami Island wharf is approximately 1.5 km away. The official operator estimates about 20 minutes on foot or five minutes by local bus 10-4 or taxi. Walking can be reasonable in mild weather with light bags; a taxi protects energy and is easier in rain, heat, snow or with children. Show the address 1024 Bukhangangbyeon-ro, Gapyeong-eup if the destination is unclear.

The Bukhangang separates Nami Island from the mainland; the tall zip-wire tower is visible across the water in this archive view.[3]

Treat route 10-4 as a live option, not a guaranteed connection. Check the current Gyeonggi bus display after arrival and compare its wait with the taxi queue. A transit card can pay for ordinary local transport where accepted, but keep a separate payment method available. On the return, leave the island based on your train deadline rather than waiting until you feel finished; the ferry and station transfer are still part of the schedule.

3. Buy admission and board the ferry

The ticket office and Gapyeong Wharf are on the mainland. The regular KRW 19,000 ticket includes admission and the round-trip ferry, so do not buy a second standard ferry ticket. Eligible discount and special categories are listed separately at KRW 16,000 and KRW 13,000; check the operator's current definitions and bring the proof required for a concession rather than assuming an age or nationality qualifies.

The normal crossing takes about five minutes. Keep the ticket or return credential accessible and follow staff instructions when boarding. If you are considering the zip wire instead, VISITKOREA currently lists two courses at KRW 55,000 and KRW 58,000, including island entry and the return ferry. Height, weight, health and weather conditions apply, so confirm the live operator rules before building the day around it.

What are the 2026 ferry hours and admission prices?

Nami Island's official schedule lists mainland departures every 30 minutes from 08:00 to 09:00, every 10–20 minutes from 09:00 to 18:00, and every 30 minutes from 18:00 to 21:00. The first ferry into the island is 08:00 and the last is 21:00; the first scheduled departure from the island is 08:05 and the last is 21:05. Operations can change with conditions.

For the 2026 autumn extension, the official notice lists an earlier 07:30 first ferry daily from September 18 through November 22. It also lists a 21:30 final ferry on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays during that period. That is useful for foliage-season flexibility, but it is not a promise that every activity, restaurant or train runs equally late. Check the day's notice before relying on an extended crossing.

  • Regular admission: KRW 19,000, including the round-trip ferry.

  • Discount admission: KRW 16,000; confirm the current eligibility and proof requirement.

  • Special admission: KRW 13,000; confirm the current eligibility and proof requirement.

  • Children age three and younger are listed for free admission on the current VISITKOREA record.

  • The island is listed as open year-round, while individual activities and crossings can change with weather or operations.

How much time should you spend on Nami Island?

Give the island at least three hours after you step off the ferry; four or five hours is better for lunch, a slow walking circuit and one paid activity. Begin with the central tree lanes before tour groups spread out, then move toward a quieter river edge, garden or exhibition. The point is not to trace every road. Choose one broad loop that brings you back to the wharf without repeated backtracking.

A practical half-day circuit

From the arrival wharf, follow the central pine-lined approach, turn toward the long metasequoia avenue, then use a parallel woodland or river path for the return. Add one indoor cultural space, playground or short activity according to the group. Eat before you become pressed for a ferry, and keep the final thirty to forty-five minutes free for the walk back, a queue and any last-minute restroom stop.

A slow circuit through the tree lanes is more rewarding than compressing the island into a short multi-stop tour.[4]

Families should reduce the walking loop and protect meal time. Photographers benefit from an early arrival or the extended autumn evening, but should avoid assuming a famous lane will be empty. Visitors with limited mobility should review the current ferry and facility guidance directly, because a generally flat island does not mean every gravel path, activity or boarding condition is equally accessible. A flexible data connection helps with return updates; our Korea eSIM guide covers that setup.

Should you combine Nami with another Gapyeong attraction?

Combine Nami with one additional attraction only when transport between the two is already solved. The Garden of Morning Calm can add seasonal planting or winter lights; a rail-bike booking can add a fixed activity. Either one changes the day from a loose island visit into a timed regional itinerary. A guided tour is often rational in that case because the difficult part is the connection, not admission to Nami.

Flower beds and winding paths across the Garden of Morning Calm beneath wooded hills
The Garden of Morning Calm is a separate Gapyeong stop; add it only when the transfer and time on Nami still work.[5]

Do not add a place simply because it appears in a popular package title. Check its exact location, entry time, closing time and the minutes actually allocated. If the second stop forces less than two useful hours on the island, choose which experience matters more. Nami alone suits slow walkers, young children and travelers recovering from a long flight; a two-stop day suits people comfortable with a fixed pace and evening return.

What should you remove first?

Remove the least distinctive short photo stop first, not lunch or the return margin. If rain makes a rail-bike slot unattractive, preserve the island's wooded paths and indoor spaces. If autumn road traffic compresses the day, leave enough time for the ferry and reserved train rather than trying to recover minutes at every stop. A day trip succeeds when its essential sequence survives disruption.

When is the best season for Nami Island?

Spring and summer

Spring brings blossoms and new leaves, but bloom dates vary with the weather. Summer gives dense green shade and longer evenings, alongside heat, humidity and heavy-rain risk. Start earlier, carry water and keep an indoor alternative. The operator sometimes extends ferry service during blossom and vacation periods; only use the dated notice for your visit, not an old seasonal timetable.

Autumn and winter

Autumn has the strongest demand for the ginkgo and metasequoia lanes. Reserve ITX seats early and use the official 2026 extended-ferry dates as a planning window, not a foliage forecast. Winter offers quieter paths and possible snow, but cold, ice and wind change walking comfort and activity operation. The island states that it operates year-round, while temporary ferry or facility changes are announced when conditions require them.

What should you check before leaving Seoul?

  • Confirm the exact Yongsan or Cheongnyangni departure, train number, car, seat and Gapyeong return on KORAIL.

  • Save Gapyeong Station and 1024 Bukhangangbyeon-ro in Korean and English, plus the current ferry notice.

  • Compare bus 10-4 with the taxi wait after arrival instead of assuming either connection will be immediate.

  • Pack water, weather protection, comfortable shoes, a charged phone and one backup payment method.

  • For a shuttle or tour, verify the precise pickup, admissions, return time, pet rule and cancellation deadline.

  • Set an island departure time by working backward from the reserved train, including the ferry and 1.5 km transfer.
